There is a company called Silver Kite Community Arts Consulting, and they are creating a pretty amazing project. They are currently in the middle of their "Act of kite'ness" campaign, and they want our help! What this campaign is, is a collection of photos showing yourself, or others, performing random acts of kindness. If you capture a photo of a random act of kindness being performed tweet it, or post it on Facebook, and include a description along with the hashtag #ActofKiteness "In your #ActsofKiteness photo, Silver Kite encourages you to be as creative as possible, and incorporate the arts in your image. Think about how empathy and kindness through the arts brings about change in the communities. " says Tori Green, marketing intern. Silver Kite will be collecting the photos through October 16th, so be sure to share. For more information visit: http://www.silverkiteconsulting.com/ and remember, "A photo is worth 1,000 words".

Random Act of Kindness #53- Lessons
I play softball, and several months ago a parent asked me if I would give their little girl pitching lessons. At first I was hesitant, because I did not think I would be the best at it. Well, I gave it a shot and and here we are now... I'm still giving her lessons, and I even started helping out other girls on her team. I've learned that the knowledge you have isn't meant for just you, it is meant to be shared with others. She is such a talented player, and I am glad I got the opportunity to work with her. I guess you can say we both have taught each other a lot.

Simply, I'm Here
I received a story from Robb about a very incredible organization ran by his girlfriend and himself. He says that previously he ran an organization called Postcards from Farr Away. How it worked was friendly strangers would send in a nice letter on a postcard and they would send them off to other strangers to brighten their day. He says, "After three years of operations the organization served over 10,000 people in 40 different countries on 6 different continents." It's easy to assume that this organization was a lot to manage, and after a while Robb was unable to keep up due to other commitments. "Since then, there has been a missing piece in my heart for some time. Most people fondly recall postcards and they ask me when I'll bring it back." Well, Robb and his girlfriend, Lily, have started up a new organization with the same idea. Simple, I'm here is the name. It has the same focus, except now it's internet based. All you do is type out a nice letter and sign it with #simplyimhere . "We can then quickly scan the internet for messages with these hashtags, hand write the messages onto postcards, and mail them out to strangers" Robb explains. They are starting this out on Twitter first, and depending on it's success, will look at expanding. Be sure to check them out and give them a follow! It's a great organization!
"Lily came up with the name for Simply, I'm Here. She wanted a name that spoke to the mission of what we were doing. The name hopefully will remind people that there are people out there for them. That no matter where they are at, there are people around them that love them. That they are apart of humanity's love story. That people are here for them."

Random Act of Kindness #52- Replacing
During the beginning of softball season this year we had a scrimmage and I was playing outfield. It was super sunny outside and of course I had forgotten my sunglasses. I asked if anyone had an extra pair and one of my teammates offered me hers. During the scrimmage I had a collision with another teammate and the glasses didn't make it... they broke. I felt awful! We had our end of the year banquet the other day, so I decided to purchase her a new pair of sunglasses! She was surprised to see them, especially because she told me a million times not to worry about it! I don't think she thought that I even remembered breaking them! I hope these new ones last longer than the others did!

Random Act of Kindness #51- Child's dream
During the summer I babysit a little girl in my neighborhood. If you have kept up with this blog, she has previously helped me out with a few random act of kindness. I have babysat her for the past few summers, and each summer it goes exactly how it is expect to. What I mean by that is all we did was play in the sprinklers, swim, watch movies, and go to parks. However, this year I decided to mix it up. I had her create a summer bucket list at the beginning of summer. I told her to pick everything and anything she wants to do, all her "dreams". The list includes 50 things such as; bowing, circus, baseball game, make homemade ice cream, horseback riding, mini golf, and so much more. As we complete them, we cross them off. Summer flies by just as fast as our childhood, so I'm doing everything I can to complete these things on her list in order to make this a summer she won't forget.

Change donation
At Dairy Queen there is a jar for your change and all the donations go to helping sick children. My friend donated all the change she had in her wallet, which was a good couple of dollars. She has a couple relatives with cancer and she knows how hard some days can be for those children. Every penny counts in things like this. It is a real simple way to give back.

Strep Throat
This past week I have been sick with strep throat. My neighbors found out and surprised me with some ice cream. They said "nothing makes you feel better than ice cream!" I'm very lucky to have such thoughtful neighbors!

Random Act of Kindness #50- Lemonade stand
I was driving home from practice today when I suddenly saw a lemonade stand. I turned around as quickly as I could to buy a glass. I walked up to the little kid running the stand and asked him how much it was. He told me only 25 cents, so I pulled out a dollar and told him I did not want any change. He smiled really big and said thank you at least 3 times! I know it isn't much at all but I remember when I was younger I would set up lemonade stands and if I only made 5 dollars I would be happy. I hope this little kid had a successful day of selling lemonade and made all the money he had hoped for.

Random Act of Kindness #49- Movie tickets
I went to the movies with one of my friends the other day and I got there a little before she did. Since I was there early I decided to buy her ticket for her. She walked in and I handed her the ticket and she looked at me with shock because she wasn't expecting it at all!

Traffic
Today I stopped at a gas station before practice, and the traffic to get out was absolutely crazy. I was waiting for a good amount of time. The light turned red and I saw all the cars coming up and thought I was never going to get out of there. A car stopped a little before the line and left me enough room to squeeze in so I would be able to go once the light turned green. Driving is crazy. So many people are rushing around in today's world. Letting someone in, allowing someone to go before you at a stop sign, or simply patience on the road is such a easy act of kindness that can make someones day a little easier.

An unexpected thank you
A couple days ago my one of my softball coaches walked out to her car after a game and found this. Somebody left an anonymous note that "tugged on my heart strings a little" she said. Whoever wrote this for her made her smile more than they probably expected to. It's always nice seeing people who spend countless hours helping getting a thanks for all they do.

High-Five Friday
Today I visited my dad's elementary school. When I walked into his classroom I looked on the white board and saw this on the Friday schedule! It's high-five Friday, have a good one!

Random Act of Kindness #48- Fruit rollups
Everyday when I get home from practice, the neighbor girl is playing outside. When she sees my car she stands up and runs over to me right away. The other day when she ran over to me she asked me in the cutest voice, "Chelsea, do you have any Fruit Roll-Ups? The tattoo kind?" Sadly, I did not have any for her! Well, yesterday I was asked to babysit her. Before going over, I went to the store and bought some tattoo Fruit Roll-Ups for her. She loved the surprise and the fact that I remembered, "Ahh Chelsea you remembered!"
